Polarmoist™: Sustainable Aggregate Moisture Sensors for Concrete Mix Designs

The Polarmoist™ aggregrate moisture sensor is an optica sensor designed for measuring the surface moisture content of concrete aggregates -- without physical contact with the aggregates. The sensor embeds a micro-processor and it uses LEDs as light sources. Moisture content is determined as percentage of water by weight of dry aggregates. A contactless remote measurement guarantees extremely stable performance and a lifelong sensor. The sensor is most optimal when installed aiming at clam gate or bin feeder bottoms to detect moisture content in the batch of aggregates to be weighed and about to be mixed.
The Polarmoist™ system has been extensively tested in concrete batch plants with different aggregate grade sizes. By proper calibration, the accuracy of measuring water content outperforms handmade reference measurements especially in the case of a limited number of samples and a large variation of moisture in a given batch. Polarmoist™ has a selectable analog signal output and a 24 VDC power supply voltage enabling easy integration to existing batch plant control systems. One-time calibration per material used is typical. You can switch materials is aggregate bins without re-calibrating the sensors provided the calibration has been done for the chosen material. The installation is simplified using a pre-wired junction box and plug-in connectors. It is easy to install and the sensor protection tube with air fitting is durable and keeps the sensor clean even in dusty, cold or humid environments.
